Business break-ins up; thefts down

Break and enters in Olds rose from nine to 22 during the past couple of months. However, thefts over and under $5,000 were both down during that period. Thefts over $5,000 fell to 15 from 25; and thefts under $5,000 fell slightly, to 61 from 64.

“Most businesses are being targeted for the break and enters and cash is the main target,” Olds RCMP Cpl. Michael Black says.

“We are encouraging businesses to continue to target-harden their properties with video surveillance, lighting and stronger locking systems,” he adds.

“Businesses can contact the detachment if they would like a member to come and assess their property and provide suggestions.”
