Construction crews at Olds College hoist the Centennial Village bridge for installation on Oct. 30. The bridge is about 21 metres long and will be accessed from the third floor of the student residence.

A major piece of the Olds College Centennial Village student housing project – bridge to link facilities -- was installed Thursday at the construction site on campus.

The bridge link is nearly 70 feet long and was "designed to create social movement within the building," an Olds College news release says.

The link -- a steel structure with curtain wall – sit at the third floor.

"The link is designed to give a visual experience similar to that you would have driving downtown Calgary (where you see plus 15 links between buildings)," the release indicates.

The link was built by Falcon Welding near Penhold.

It was hauled in one piece to the college, at which time it will be lifted by crane and welded and bolted in place.
