The Bowden Institution has ended a lockdown instituted on July 26 and is now in normal operations, including allowing visits. The lockdown ended Aug. 2.

The lockdown ended Aug. 2.

Officials at the institution did not say exactly why the lockdown occurred and could not be reached for comment at press time. But the institution did release this statement:

“Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is strengthening measures to prevent the entry of contraband into its institutions in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.

“CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.”
