A speaker at a religious conference in Olds says in essence, the Bible says we should live as heterosexuals, not homosexuals.

Jon Lutz, speaking on behalf of Faith Beyond Belief, gave that guidance during a presentation Oct. 15 at Olds First Baptist Church.

“It's very clear in the Scriptures and rings through the Old Testament and New Testament that individuals who are practising that sexual part, they are counter (to) what God would love us to be,” Lutz said

“There is a whole other myriad of reasons we could go through individually, but essentially, the key piece is that God loves individuals who are in those situations, but He also asks us to abstain from certain actions.”

“I believe that we're meant to at least uphold the standard that although culture – countercultural can rustle some peoples' feathers, I believe that that is the only way to live.”

“God created male and female and the two were meant to be in sexual union as well as other parts of life,” Lutz added.

He indicated that passage could be found in Genesis 2.

In the New International Version of the Bible, Genesis 2:23-24 says “this is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,' for she was taken out of man.”

“24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.”

Lutz said a stand needs to be taken on marriage as being between a man and a woman. He suggested that if that's not done, our society will collapse.

“If you look at societies in the past that have allowed for pleasure to go rampant in society, they end up somewhere where everyone gets affected in a negative way,” he said.

“If you look at the end times -- Romans towards the empire -- lust, gluttony, pleasures (were) abounding and the empire collapsed and so many people suffered from the consequences,” Lutz said.

“Society did not respect the moral roots of what it means to be human, what it means to live a life that's given over to God.”

During an interview with the Albertan later, Lutz said the idea is to guide homosexuals toward a heterosexual orientation.

But he said that should not be done in an aggressive way.

“I would say we're not trying to force individuals into an ethic that they're not willing to go,” he said.
