Bearchell irked by missing letters on library sign -- gets fixed that week

Letters that had been missing from the Olds Municipal Library sign for months were replaced last week but not before Coun. Wade Bearchell expressed impatience with how long it was taking. "It's utterly embarrassing and that's all I'm going to say.

Letters that had been missing from the Olds Municipal Library sign for months were replaced last week but not before Coun. Wade Bearchell expressed impatience with how long it was taking.

"It's utterly embarrassing and that's all I'm going to say. I would assume and hope that other councillors or the community feels the same way," Bearchell said at the Jan. 11 council meeting.

"If I was managing that organization, I would be upset every single time I walked by it."

Chief operating officer Doug Wagstaff said the letters were removed last summer. Staff had considered changing the sign or moving the rest of the letters elsewhere.

"If we just use that same style but up higher up the building where they can't be touched. When they're down low, they come off too easy and that's the issue with the style," he said.

Bearchell said the solution should not have to cost a lot.

"I don't want to come back and see a whole bunch of money spent on that sign when it could be an inexpensive fix."
