The Town of Olds has released a media advisory warning residents that local air quality is being affected by wild fires burning in B.C.

"Smoke from forest fires in British Columbia is causing elevated values of the Air Quality Health Index in Olds and Mountain View County," read the release, which said people with lung diseases, such as asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), can be particularly sensitive to air pollution.

The release advises residents to stay inside if you have breathing difficulties, and to visit a doctor or speak with a registered nurse at Health Link by calling 811, with health-related questions.

"Find an indoor place that's cool and ventilated. Using an air conditioner that cools and filters air may help. Reduce levels of physical activity, as necessary, to decrease the inhalation of airborne pollutants."

Further information about the air quality can be found on the Alberta Environment and Parks Website and is also available toll-free by phone at 1-877-247-7333.
