A suspect alleged to have committed an armed robbery at an Olds liquor store on May 8 as well as four others in Carstairs, Airdrie and Cochrane has been arrested and is now going through the courts.

Christopher Carl Ferguson, 27, of Airdrie was arrested May 14 after a hit-and-run accident involving an SUV and a motor scooter on Highway 1 near Strathmore.

Police say the victim riding the scooter is Piotr Glowacki of Poland, who was doing a round-the-world tour on his scooter.

Ferguson was scheduled to appear in provincial court in Calgary May 17 to answer a total of 20 charges in connection with those robberies.

Those charges include robbery with an offensive weapon, assault with a weapon, failing to comply with probation conditions, impaired operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, uttering threats and public mischief.

The investigation is continuing and further charges are expected.

Further information on this story will appear in the May 23 edition of the Albertan.
