MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Water Valley’s Dylan Pighin really showed off her scoring prowess at the recent World Ringette Championships tournament at the WinSport’s Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary, tallying four goals and adding two assists during two matches.

Dylan, 17, is a member of the U-18 Team Canada. Her squad played in the International Development Festival tournament, with players from the U.S., Finland and elsewhere in Europe.

“It was a great tournament and we actually won both the games we played,” she said.

Ringette is played on the same ice surface as hockey, with three forwards, two defence and one goalie on each shift.

In the first game against Canada East, Dylan’s team won 7-3. In the second matchup, against Finland, her team won 6-5, scoring the winning goal with under two seconds left on the clock.

For her part, Dylan, a forward, scored three goals in the first game, followed by a goal and two assists in the second game.

The tournament also includes several training sessions, which Dylan called worthwhile and “super busy.”

“We were all pretty gassed by the end of it,” she said. “It went from 7 a.m. to 9 at night. It was a lot but worth it.”

More than 350 players in several age categories will hit the ice in the tournament, presented by Ringette Canada and the International Ringette Federation.
