MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - A fire northeast of Didsbury Tuesday completely destroyed a small residential structure, with the lone male occupant not injured, says Didsbury Fire Department Chief Curtis Mousseau.
The structure fire occurred on the morning of Jan. 9, with Didsbury, Olds and Carstairs firefighters responding.
“It was fully engulfed when crews arrived,” he said. “Both ourselves and Olds (firefighters) arrived within seconds of each other. Olds came as mutual aid, as well as Carstairs.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.
“We know it is not suspicious in nature,” he said.
He described the building as an addition to an older mobile home that had been converted into a suite.
“The standalone unit was completely destroyed,” he said.
Although he could not immediately say how many firefighters in total attended the scene, the response did include numerous fire trucks, tankers and other equipment.
Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours, with a crew returning Wednesday to deal with smouldering hotspots, he said.
The structure was on a rural property near Burns Lake and Township Road 315.
