Development permits in Mountain View County top $22 million to date

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - The county has issued 109 residential, 12 commercial and five industrial building permits so far in 2023, with total construction values of more than $22 million, according to a report presented to council.

The Planning and Development Services quarterly report was given to council at a recent regularly scheduled meeting. 

Presented by Margaretha Bloem, director of planning and development, the report outlines activities such a permits issued, bylaw complaints, projects underway and planning applications.

Seventy-six residential permits worth $13,932,613 were issued in the second quarter, bringing the year-to-date total to 109 permits worth $21,381,536.

Nine commercial permits worth $753,823 were issued in the second quarter, bringing the year-to-date total to 12 permits worth $888,923. 

Five industrial permits worth $347,500 have been issued to date.

A total of 175 planning applications have been issued to date; in 2022 a total of 408 permit were issued.

A total of 450 permit applications have been issued to date; in 2022 a total of 935 permits were issued.

“This is our busy season for construction and projects, so those number are up,” said Bloem.

A total of 44 bylaw complaints have been investigated to date, including 22 regarding land use. In 2022, 75 total cases were investigated.

Regarding projects underway, the Olds-Didsbury Airport area structure plan review is continuing, with a meeting in June and one planned for this month.

“That review is moving along at a good pace,” she said. “The committee is providing some detailed feedback for our land use bylaw district, as well as our specific regulations relating to height and noise exposure.”

The review of the South McDougal Flats area structure plan is ongoing, with a meeting held in July.

The review of the Water Valley Winchell Lake area structure plan is also continuing, with a meeting held in June and one scheduled for Aug. 29.

The land use bylaw review is continuing with a workshop held May 17 and one scheduled for this month.

Council accepted the Planning and Development Services quarterly report as information.
