Week of honours for Grizzlys players

Players from the 2013-14 Olds Grizzlys team had a great deal to celebrate this past week.Chris Gerrie, who was named the Alberta Junior Hockey League's (AJHL) rookie of the year in February and the team's rookie of the year last month, was announced as one of five finalists for the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) rookie of the year award on April 28.With 18 goals, 36 assists and 54 points, Gerrie, who hails from Red Deer and turns 18 on May 7, led the AJHL in goals, assists and points and he was among the league's top scorers.The CJHL will announce the winner of the 2014 rookie of the year award during the week of May 5 to 9.On April 29, the Grizzlys announced that two players leaving the team this season, starter goaltender Ethan Jemieff who hails from Olds and Taylor Bilyk, a defenceman from Edmonton, have committed to schools in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference for the upcoming school year.Jemieff, who netminded for the Grizzlys for two years, has committed to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) Trojans and Bilyk, who played three years with the team and was an assistant captain this last season, has committed to the MacEwan University Griffins.And outgoing team captain Spencer Dorowicz, who also calls Olds home and was the AJHL's leading goal scorer this season, was one of 10 finalists for the CJHL's top forward award, although he did not make the cut for the final five positions.
