OLDS — After nearly two weeks of internal training, the Olds College Broncos men’s and women’s soccer teams are looking forward to taking their preparation to another level.

The Broncos will make the short commute north to Red Deer, where the Kings and Queens are hosting a pre-season tournament at the Edgar Athletic Fields this weekend.

The women’s soccer Broncos will get a double dose of competition on Saturday, first facing the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings at 11 a.m. before facing the Brandon University Bobcats at 6 p.m., then wrapping up their weekend with a Sunday matchup against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks at 12:30 p.m.

On the men’s side, the Broncos will battle the Medicine Hat College Rattlers tomorrow at 8 p.m., followed by a matchup with Lethbridge College on Saturday at 4 p.m. before finishing the weekend against the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Allan Siwela, head coach of both the Broncos’ women’s and men’s soccer teams, is excited about seeing his players in game action.

“Both teams have worked hard in training these past two weeks of training camp,” Siwela said. “I am looking forward to seeing them compete outside of our training environment. This weekend will be a good indicator of what to expect during the season.”

“I expect both teams to be competitive in their games. It’s still early in the season and there will be room for improvement as we head into the season, Siwela said.

The Broncos will open their regular season on Sept. 11 against the SAIT Trojans at Richardson Pioneer Field. The women will kick off at noon, followed by the men at 2 p.m.
