The Olds College men's curling team has qualified for the Alberta College Athletics Conference finals next month.

With a solid 4-2 mark on the weekend at the winter regional event they hosted at the Olds Curling Club, the Broncos team finished third overall in the standings to clinch one of the four spots available at the conference championship weekend.

The team of Adam Wutzke, Kory Roberge, Travis Paulgaard and Elliott Mansell were able to use home ice to build on the 3-3 record they had coming into the winter regional.

Friday they started off on the right foot with a 10-3 win over Grant MacEwan University, but saw their record evened at 1-1 following a 6-2 loss to Red Deer College. Saturday, the Broncos rink got back into form with a 6-5 win over Augustana and a 7-4 win over Lakeland College. In their final game Saturday they lost to top seed NAIT 8-3.

Sunday they wrapped up the weekend with a tight 6-5 win over Grande Prairie Regional College to clinch their spot in the early March finals in Lloydminster. Joining them will be NAIT, Augustana and Red Deer College.

On the women's side, the Broncos team of Samantha Klaver, Jennifer Lansdall, Nicole Dowell and Megan Thomas came into the weekend with a 0-6 record but left the weekend with their first win of the season.

Saturday evening the team downed Portage College 8-3 to claim their only win of the weekend, but something they could hang their hats on. In other games the women's team lost 7-1 to NAIT, 11-4 to Grande Prairie, 8-2 to Red Deer, 10-5 to Augustana and 9-2 to Concordia University College.

The Broncos women did not qualify for the ACAC championships, with those spots going to NAIT, Grande Prairie, Grant MacEwan and Concordia.

In the mixed event, there was no representative from Olds College, but NAIT, Grant MacEwan, Augustana and Red Deer all move on to the conference decider.
