Record number entries at 72nd annual Carstairs show

CARSTAIRS - The recent 2017 Carstairs Horticulture and Craft Show attracted a record number of entries, much to the delight of organizers and participants, said committee chairperson Paige Gil. "Our show was a huge success," said Gil.

CARSTAIRS - The recent 2017 Carstairs Horticulture and Craft Show attracted a record number of entries, much to the delight of organizers and participants, said committee chairperson Paige Gil.

"Our show was a huge success," said Gil. "We set a record number of entries."

There were a total of 965 entries, made up of 386 junior entries and 579 adult entries, at the 72nd annual community event.

The show featured flowers, fruit and vegetables, photography, handicrafts and hobby crafts.

"New this year to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday we had red and white arrangements, flags and family trees made from any medium.

"Show day included games and activities for children, a supper with dessert prepared by the Carstairs Agricultural Society, and awards presentation."

The MC was Gwen Jensen, and the presenter was committee chair Paige Gil.

ï The high point in show winners were Maleah Phillips (in junior category) and Tracey Colosino (in adult).

ï High point flower and vegetables was Tracey Colosino (adult).

ï High point flowers were Calista Phillips (junior) and Tracey Colosino (adult).

ï High point vegetables and fruit were Calista Phillips (junior) and Kim Fischer (adult).

ï High point handicrafts were Maleah Phillips (junior) and Marlene Steingart (adult).

ï High point baking and preserves were Maleah Phillips (junior) and Jackie Easy (adult).

ï High point hobby crafts and artwork were Maleah Phillips (junior) and Dana Wallace (adult).

ï High point photography were Calista Phillips (junior) and Tyler Gerritsen (adult).

ï Best in Show 5 and under, Avery Madore.

Next year's show will be Aug. 17, 2018.
