Supporting victims of crime

Chinook Arch Victim's Services will be benefiting from the use of a new Dodge Journey van thanks to a generous donation by Mountain View Dodge.

The van was donated during the recent Didsbury Car Club's Fuel-A-Palooza drive-in theatre night at Mountain View Dodge.

Dana Munn, Didsbury Car Club president, said the donation of a Dodge Journey to Chinook Arch Victim's Services will be a great help to that organization, which provides immediate crisis intervention, support, information and referrals to victims of crime and trauma.

"It was a pretty big deal," said Munn. "If there is a homicide, suicide, child abuse, any of the evil things happen, victim's services work with the RCMP. They are the people who show up to support and comfort the victims."

The van will be used to transport the support dogs that are used to provide comfort in court around the province for children who have been physically or sexually abused, said Munn.

"They have gone to Calgary, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie; these dogs are utilized all over," he said. "They're based out of Olds, but as far as the service dogs are concerned, they do travel wherever the dogs are needed even outside of our area."

Sage Hughes, marketing coordinator for Mountain View Dodge, said they were glad to host the drive-in theatre and be able to present the van to Chinook Arch Victim's Service.

"We think it's important to support the community and it's important to make sure people feel protected and safe in our community," said Hughes. "We wanted to make an event here that brought the community together in more ways than one. We had the charity aspect as well as the drive-in movie and food vendors."
