DIDSBURY - It was a beautiful sunny day when the CP Holiday Train rolled into town on Dec. 7. It was a stark contrast from last year when temperatures plunged to nearly -30.

A great turnout of several hundred people gathered in and around the train station to catch performances by Emma Lee and blues man Colin James.

The holiday train tours through Canada and the U.S., stopping at various spots along the way, and features festive holiday lights. The train has been going every year for 19 years and has raised over $4 million for food banks across Canada and the U.S.

Lee performed a couple of songs and then CP spokesperson Mike Levesque introduced Didsbury Mayor Rhonda Hunter who spoke a few words thanking CP and those in attendance for coming out and supporting the food bank.

Following Hunter was a cheque presentation from CP to the Mountain View Food Bank for $4,000. The food bank also collected cash and food donations on the spot.

Recording artist James then took the stage performing several Christmas songs including his original Boogie Woogie Santa Claus from his 2007 Christmas album.
