Help sought for sick dogs

CARSTAIRS – Pawsitive Haven Animal Rescue has put out an urgent call for donations to help cover the cost of medical treatment for two sick dogs that recently came into the care of the Carstairs facility, says co-founder Ashley Reid.

One of the dogs, a German shepherd cross named Bruce, is in need of treatment for an enlarged trachea and fluid around his heart.

“Without seeing a specialist Bruce will probably die,” said Reid. “He is such a sweet boy and we are going to fight to keep him alive.”

The other dog, also believed to be a shepherd cross named Pepper, has severe mange that has caused most of the animal’s hair to fall out.

"We believe that every animal deserves a fair chance at life and we will do everything in our power to do that for them.”

As well as taking donations, officials will also be conducting a bottle drive and a draw for a party wagon as part of the effort to help the dogs, she said.

“We need to raise about $10,000,” she said.
