DIDSBURY - With great weather and clear skies, Didsbury Car Club's signature event, Fuel-A-Palooza, filled the streets with both vehicles and people.

The three-day event, which was new this year, featured a Friday cruise to Olds for a drive-in movie, Saturday's Show 'n Shine car show and Sunday's 100 foot shoot out finals.

Didsbury Car Club president Dana Munn said the show was a great success and having it over three days worked very well.

"I think it was quite a success," said Munn. "The streets were full of people. I think we could probably say thousands of people. We had just shy of 500 vehicles registered. We're going to continue to do the Fuel-A-Palooza."

Among the new events was Friday's Spencer Lester memorial cruise around Didsbury, then up to Olds to Mountain View Dodge where the cruisers and many others got to watch American Graffiti on an outdoor screen. In addition, Mountain View Dodge donated a Dodge Journey van to Chinook Arch Victim's Services.

"We had 50 cars that met us at our clubhouse in Didsbury, a lot of them from out of town," said Munn. "We had several cars meet us up there so we probably had 200 cars in the parking lot at Mountain View Dodge for the drive-in."

Saturday's Show 'n Shine featured vehicles from the 1920s right up to present day. There was also the burn out box, car dyno, battle of the techs, Curves and Chrome cabaret, vendors, FMX stunt bike riders, and much more.

"The cabaret was a great success," said Munn. "We auctioned off a ton of items. We ended up raising about $3,000 for Mountain View Hope4Kids. We even talked Dave and Duane Kernaghan of Airdrie Rods and Restoration and the Muscle Car Shop in Crossfield to shave off their beards. We raised $1,000 for that for Hope4Kids."

Munn said the reason the event gets so many spectators out is because they have so much going on.

"There's just a ton of things going on," he said. "So even for people that aren't interested in looking at cars, there is something for everyone."
