Flood money will support Cremona

Mountain View County will use $50,000 recently made available by the provincial government for flood mitigation effort that will be used to upgrade water infrastructure in Cremona, says Reeve Bruce Beattie.

“The proposal is to improve their water well to make it resistant to flooding,” said Beattie. “Thing with Cremona is their top pipes come out too low. We will extend them so if there is a high water flow, the water won’t get into the wells.

“It is going to be a collaborative effort with Cremona. That’s where that $50,000 is going to go.”

In announcing the new funding, which also included $13,700 for Sundre, the province said the money will be used to support communities at risk of flooding.

“It’s crucial that we support our communities across the province so they are ready to deal with emergencies and keep people and property safe,” said Shaye Anderson, minister of municipal affairs.

“We’ve added equipment to our provincial flood stockpile and quickly identified communities that need a boost in their ability to prepare for flood emergencies.”

The City of Calgary is receiving $1 million in new flood mitigation funding.
