Mountain View County council has passed a motion to hire Jeff Holmes as the municipality's new CAO. The move came during the council's regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 27.
Holmes, a longtime county employee, including most recently as director of legislative, community and agricultural services, will replace retiring CAO Tony Martens effective Jan. 1.
"I look forward to serving the citizens of Mountain View County. Success of the position is going to rely on the dedicated, professional staff that work at Mountain View County to deliver the programs and services for our ratepayers," Holmes told councillors and staff during the Sept. 27 council meeting.
He thanked Martens for his mentorship help over the past years.
The CAO is the county's top administrative position, overseeing all staff and working with council.
Holmes will be acting CAO from Jan. 1 to Feb. 1 when he will become the permanent CAO.
Reeve Bruce Beattie said Holmes' long history with the county will be an asset to the municipality.
"I have worked with Jeff the past seven years and have been impressed with his knowledge and work ethic," said Beattie.
Other councillors and Martens also congratulated Holmes.
Born and raised in Mountain View County, Holmes is a graduate of Olds College and completed his legislative and municipal governance training through the University of Alberta, and Queen's University in Kingston, Ont.
