DIDSBURY - The Copperview Landing area structure plan amendment and land use redesignation both passed final reading at a special council meeting held on Aug. 3. The voting followed an open house that featured staff, council members and developers along with the plans for the area.

Christofer Atchison, manager of legislative and development services for Didsbury, said there was a fair turnout for the open house.

"We had a number of landowners that live adjacent to the development at the open house as well as some residents that were interested in the development," said Atchison. "Lots of people were excited about the development moving forward with some great questions asked and suggestions made."

Atchison said that now that the area structure plan and land use redesignation have been approved, the developer will be working with their engineering and planner to finalize the infrastructure required for the first phases and will then be able to apply for subdivision.

Coun. Joyce McCoy said that she was pleased to see a good turnout at the open house from adjacent landowners and interested residents.

"We expect that they will be applying for subdivision in the coming months which will see a large amount of residential lots become available for construction," said McCoy. "Currently, Didsbury is in need of increased residential lots and this development will certainly assist with that demand."
