Melissa Copley has been elected as Chinook's Edge School Division trustee in Ward 9 (Carstairs/Cremona), defeating incumbent Sheldon Ball, according to unofficial results released Monday night.

Copley garnered 623 votes, while Ball garnered 482 votes.

"I'm excited to jump in and hear the inside story of what has been happening over the past four years and what we need to work on," Copley told the Gazette.

"I'm looking forward to evaluating and assessing and really putting that parents voice on it, which is something I said throughout the whole campaign, that we need parents voice on everything we are doing, and that's what I'm going to do from Day One."

She commended Ball for his time as trustee.

"I appreciate the work that he has done and wish him well in anything he chooses to do," she said.

Meanwhile, Sherry Cooper was elected in Penhold/Springbrook/Poplar Ridge, and Connie Huelsman was elected in Bowden/Spruce View.

Trustees Allan Tarnoczi (Sundre), Trudy James (Olds/Reed Ranch), and Gordon Kerr (Didsbury), Colleen Butler (Delburne/Elnora), Holly Bilton (Innisfail), Joe-Anne Knispel-Matejka (Sylvan Lake) were acclaimed.
