CARSTAIRS - Lance Colby is pleased to be re-elected (unofficially) as mayor of Carstairs for a fourth term with a very familiar council.

Colby told the Gazette there are a number of issues that council would like to continue working on.

"I was hoping it would turn out that the councillors would come back and that we'd have one new face on council," said Colby. "I think we have been a very progressive team. I'm glad to see there hasn't been a big change. I think Shannon Wilcox as the new person on council will be a welcome addition to our council and we'll have a positive move forward."

Colby said that with all incumbents being voted in is a positive sign that residents are happy with the direction of council.

"I think people are pleased with the way the town is going and the progressive way we look to the future," he said. "I think everyone recognizes the good planning and fiscal responsibility we've been able to improve the town without increasing taxes to any great level."

Colby said he was very appreciative of Cameron Tolley and Rhonda Kraemer-Wise for putting the effort forward to run for council.

"I think it made for a good election," he said.

Colby said there are a number of issues that council needs to address including a new school, snow removal, senior's housing and building codes.

"We want to try to get a new school for Carstairs," he said. "We're growing in such a fashion that the younger grades are having to move back to the old school. That's one of the main issues. Melissa Copley is the new trustee and that's part of her agenda and it'll be part of ours. We want to see how we can help move it forward."

Colby also mentioned the need for increased policing and a tri-services building for the future.

"There's quite a bit on our table that's coming up for the next four years," he said.
