CARSTAIRS - The second annual Cars, Cops and Kids Show and Shine is scheduled for Aug. 19 outside Carstairs Memorial Arena from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The event is being organized by Carstairs Protective Services in conjunction with the town and the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Alberta.

Const. Clayton Mamchur, Carstairs' enhanced RCMP member, said the event will have plenty of fun for the whole family.

"All the proceeds go to Special Olympics Alberta for programs and such," said Mamchur. "There'll be a number of vendors there and booths as well. There'll be hot rods, police cars, fire trucks, kids' events such as face- painting, mini-golf."

Mamchur said the Calgary Flames street crew is coming out and they'll bring an autographed jersey for raffle. The popular dunk tank will be returning as well.

Cars, Cops and Kids is not only put on to raise money for a very important cause but it's also a great way for people to see police officers in a different light.

"It's done to showcase the Town of Carstairs and a way to donate to the cause," he said. "We also do it as a chance to meet people in a non-enforcement role."
