DIDSBURY - The Didsbury Car Club recently put on another great community event with a pig roast, 100-foot shootout, corn boil, drive-in theatre and a performance by local motorbike trick artist Billy Kohut.

The special event was put on to help raise awareness and money for the car club's suicide awareness campaign.

Acting car club president Dana Munn said the event went very well and they were able to raise just over $3,000 for a very worthy cause.

"I think the event went stellar," said Munn. "We had a good crowd of people out. I'm not sure exactly, but it looked like we had two to three hundred people in the bleachers at one time. It was packed."

Kohut was a big hit as always, as was the pig roast and the Kohut Family Farm corn boil, he said

Also performing was a friend of Kohut's, Chad Bowman.

"We also had the Canadian veterans' riders association helping us with the barbecue," said Munn. "We used Tara Oilfield's awesome barbecue for the meat. Tara was a sponsor."

About 20 vehicles participated in the 100-foot shootout competition, he said.

"We opened it up to the public after that and we had another eight to10 try it," he said.

Munn added that 582 Patio and Grill hosted a live band, Tom Cleeverly and Rock City Music.

After the band played the club showed a drive-in movie, which was Two Lane Blacktop starring James Taylor.

"The band played prior to the movie," he said. "They set up right in front of the screen. We had about 40 cars come out and most of them were full up as we just charged per vehicle."

"I think the event went stellar."Dana Munn
