Cadets honoured for service

The Didsbury-based 3025 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps held its annual ceremonial review at Didsbury High School on June 13.

The Didsbury-based 3025 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps held its annual ceremonial review at  Didsbury High School on June 13.

During the half-hour ceremony, reviewing officer Major Evan Wile, company commander for the 41 Service Battalion of the Royal Canadian Army, told cadets they can take pride in their service to the community and to Canada.

The 3025 Cadet Corps is tied to the 41 Service Battalion.

“The 41 Service Battalion is extremely proud of the relationship it has with 3025 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps,” said Wile. “Qualities like motivation, dedication, discipline, teamwork, and especially leadership that you get through the (cadet) program will serve you all very well.

“The cadet program does such a great job of teaching the value of community service. I hope you would all continue your community service and volunteering in any area you feel passionate about, whether that is working with veterans, seniors, children. Those are crucial in making our country a great place.”

Activities undertaken by cadets over the past year included Remembrance Day ceremonies and Didsbury cenotaph honour guard.

The ceremony included individual awards and recognitions.

Army cadets are identified by last name only in public reference, said MC Dwayne Thomas, who is vice- president of the 3025 parents' association.

Master Warrant Officer Schmidt, Sgt. Pasloske and Sgt. Boyd were this year’s recipients of the Perfect Attendance award.

Master Corporal Lafferty was awarded as most improved shot.

Master Corporal Hodges was awarded as most improved cadet.

Master Warrant Officer Austin was awarded as best shot.

Corporal Lawlor was recognized as top 1st year cadet.

Corporal Pasloske was recognized as top 2nd year cadet.

Master Corporal Hodges was recognized as top 3rd year cadet.

Sgt. Boyd was recognized as top 4th year cadet.

Warrant Officer Knipe was recognized as top cadet instructor.

Master Corporal R. Fair was recognized as top junior non-commissioned officer (NCO).

Warrant Officer Knipe was recognized as top NCO.

Corporal Albersworth received the staff award for perseverance.

Master Warrant Officer Schmidt and Master Corporal Fair were recognized as outstanding cadets.

Warrant Officer Knipe received the Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence.

Master Warrant Officer Austin received the Lord Strathcona’s Medal.

Regimental Sgt. Major K. Colosino, Sgt. Cummings and Master Warrant Officer Schmidt received Army Cadet League of Canada Long Service medals.

Capt. T. Kaczmarski is the commanding officer, Capt. K. Hickling is the deputy commanding officer, Lt. T. MacDonald is the training officer, civilian instructor T. Colosino is the supply officer, civilian instructor J. Austin is the administrative officer, CWO K. Colosino is the regimental Sergeant Major, MWO R. Austin is the company Sergeant Major, and MWO J. Schmidt is the QMSI/Standards of the 3025 Cadet Corps.
