Work on the upgrade to the Highway 27 bridge over the Dogpound Creek between Olds and Sundre is moving ahead and now scheduled to be completed by mid-September.

"Final work to complete the replacement of the Dogpound Creek bridge on Highway 27 started back up this May," said Alberta Transportation spokesperson Julie MacIsaac.

"The bridge's girders were erected over the winter. The contractor will now pour the concrete deck, complete concrete work at either end of the bridge, and build the road approaches."

Once that work is completed the temporary bridge will be removed and traffic routed back to the newly replaced bridge, she said.

"We anticipate that work will be complete by late summer 2017," she said. "We appreciate the patience of area motorists throughout this project."

The detour over the temporary bridge, and subsequent speed reduction to 50 km/h, will be maintained until work is complete, she noted.

The project was originally scheduled to be completed in 2016, but once work began officials realized more extensive work needed to be undertaken.
