Motorists travelling north of Water Valley can expect to see a major detour in place starting at the end of June, say officials.

A multi-million-dollar project will see a single lane bridge constructed over the Little Red Deer River at Rge. Rd. 52 this summer.

“We’ve done the pre-construction meeting but work hasn’t started yet,” said Ryan Morrison, assistant director operational services with Mountain View County.

The roadway and crossing will be closed during construction.

“The plan right now is the road is going to be closed after the weekend of June 22-24, which coincides with the Water Valley Celtic Festival,” he said. “The contractor is going to be putting up signs shortly.

“They’re going to reroute the traffic all the way over to Highway 22 and then onto the Burnt Timber Road. It is a fairly busy road with only so many crossings over the Little Red Deer River in that area.”

The county-owned campground at the site will also be shut down for the season started on June 25, he said.

The bridge construction project is expected to be completed in October.
