Mountain View County Reeve Bruce Beattie says he plans to seek a third term on council and would accept the position of reeve again if nominated by his fellow councillors.

The current councillor for Division 4, Beattie announced his plans on Aug. 30.

"I will be seeking re-election," said Beattie. "There are a number of changes happening at the county with the retirement of (CAO) Tony Martens, so if I am successful I would hope to add some stability to the operation, and I still have a few things I'd like to see accomplished by the county and I think I can still offer something to the residents."

The 2017 municipal election goes Oct. 16.

Current county councillors Angela Aalbers, Duncan Milne, Jeremy Sayer, Patricia McKean and Al Kemmere have already said they plan to seek re-election.

Division 5 first-term councillor Ken Heck says he will not be running again.

For his part, Beattie says there are several things he hopes to work on if he is re-elected.

"Certainly the continuation of the discussions with our municipal partners within the county are important," he said. "We have the intermunicipal agreement to finalize with Sundre. We also have to negotiate agreements with our surrounding counties as well. There will be lots to do on that front.

"The new Municipal Government Act regulations changes are also going to present some challenges to councils."

The reeve is the principal spokesperson of the municipality and is nominated by fellow councillors following the election.

"I would certainly accept the nomination if I was successful in the election," he said.
