Mountain View County's agricultural services board (ASB) has been given an update on the upcoming provincial agricultural service board summer tour.

The review came during the ASB's recent regularly scheduled meeting in council chambers.

Being jointly hosted by Mountain View County and Red Deer County, the tour takes place July 11 - 14. The theme of the tour is Growing Tomorrow's Agriculture.

Kneehill County is also involved as one of the event's main sponsors.

About 400 agricultural service board members from across the province are expected to attend.

The event will feature a delegate tour, a partner tour and a youth tour of farms, ranches and other agriculture-related businesses and operations in the region.

There will be optional activities such as whitewater rafting, golfing and tours of Olds College.

Tour coordinator Donna Trottier gave the ASB the update.

"We are focusing on technology and advances in agriculture," Trottier said. "And that's what we are trying to educate some people about and showcase all the great farmers and agricultural activity in our two municipalities.

"The base of our tour is Olds College, which fits in well with our theme educating youth and young adults about working in agriculture."

Her update included details about the stops on the delegate, partner and youth tours. The five stops on the delegate tour are as follows: Brian Ellis pedigree seed, Barr-Ag Ltd. hay plant, Jeff Carlson Precision Agriculture demonstration, Reese Cattle Company, and Willow Lane Barn.

The partner tour will include stops at Fallentimber Meadery, Solstice Berry Farm, PaSu Farms, Kohut Corn and Shirley's Greenhouse.

The Youth Ag-tivity Day will include team building, introduction to farm safety, exploration of Olds College resources, and exploring the wetlands with Red Deer River Watershed Alliance officials.

ASB board member and county councillor Duncan Milne is the board's representative on the tour planning committee. He said he is pleased with the way things are coming along and expects the tour to be a success for everyone involved.

Agricultural service boards operate in many rural municipalities, advising councils and the province on agricultural issues and concerns.

The MVC's board is made up of appointed public members and members of council.
