A story of ice and fire and cats

With temperatures dropping a little and kids going back to school it's clear that fall is coming if not here.

Fall is a great time if you're a sports fan with the start of NBA basketball and NHL hockey seasons. Junior leagues are gearing up with the Mountainview Colts of the Heritage Junior B League starting their regular season on Friday, Sept. 22 with a home game against Ponoka. Meanwhile, the Olds Grizzlys began their junior A season on Sunday in Calgary.

The Colts have been very strong recently with mostly veteran squads. This year the team will be younger and have a new coach as Michael Galye moves up from assistant. That's not to say they'll be weak, not with talented players Colton Anderson, Cale Brown and Wyatt Gelinas returning.

The Grizzlys, on the other hand, have struggled recently both on and off the ice. The team was close to folding in the off-season but a late buy-out from a group of mostly locals kept the team in Olds.

On a more sedentary note, fall also means new TV shows. Of course, with more streaming services such as Netflix, you're seeing more great shows in the normally downtime of summer. Game of Thrones (don't read past here if you don't want spoilers) finished its penultimate season with a couple of epic developments and reveals: zombie dragons, crumbling walls and the true parentage of Jon Snow. It may be two years until the next season; two long years with nothing but theories and predictions.

The way the weather has turned it does appear in real life as in the show: winter is coming! But hopefully not zombies. We have enough to worry about with wildfires, hurricanes, North Korea and Donald Trump.
