Things are heating up at the Innisfail Historical Village this Saturday with the second annual chili cook-off.
Debbie Becker Matthie, village manager, said new this year is a fiddler jamboree that will play during the afternoon event.
Last year the cook-off brought out four groups and she hopes to see the number double this year.
Cooks will come in the morning to prepare and the public is invited at 1 p.m. for tasting and to vote on the three categories: best tradition, hot and spicy and vegetarian.
Winning groups receive $100 and the people's choice award for best-dressed team costume, flavour and presentation receives $150.
She hopes to see this contest flourish over the years and have it become a well-known community event.
People can still register by calling the museum by July 18 at 403-227-2906. Both challengers and fiddlers are wanted.
Becker Matthie said the money raised from the $3 admission will go towards repairing tents that is “desperately needed.”
“The tents' roofs have deteriorated from the sun. You can't put it up and it's needed for shade,” said Becker Matthie who also added they need money for a new photocopier to scan and make digital copies of the newspaper.
