Town hands over Hazelwood lots

Town council has made the decision to pass over the sale of the single family Hazelwood Estate lots to local realtors after selling only one lot last year.

Town council has made the decision to pass over the sale of the single family Hazelwood Estate lots to local realtors after selling only one lot last year. The town purchased 51 lots from Mason Martin Homes in 2009, which included 35 single family lots and 16 duplex lots.

So far in 2011 the town has sold seven single family lots and four duplex lots after offering a discounted price for buyers in February.

“The direction council has now taken was to have the lots split up between local realtors and have them list them on the MLS sites and all of the sales will go through those offices,” said Elwin Wiens, development officer for the Town of Innisfail.

However, the town will continue to sell the duplex lots from the town office because they wanted to have some architectural control of those sites, said Wiens.

Century 21, Realty Executives, Remax Sun Country, and Royal LePage were all in the draw for the sale of the single family lots.

Weins said that with a number of the lots now sold the town is expecting to have a number of housing starts after winter is over.
