Town begins toilet replacement rebate program

The Town of Innisfail is helping you flush less and save more.

Innisfail, like many other municipalities across Canada, is participating in an ongoing toilet replacement rebate program, which will see home and property owners receive a $50 rebate per unit.

“To be eligible for the rebate, the home or business owner must take the old toilet to the waste transfer station, and get their receipt stamped. Town office will take the receipt and issue a $50 credit to the water and sewer account of the homeowner,” according to Town of Innisfail administration.

Older toilets use 13 to 20 litres per flush and newer, low dual flow units can use as low as three litres per flush, providing a large water saving to users over time.

“Toilet replacement can often save thousands of litres per year,” according to administration. “Based on the $2 per cube water charge, the money saving can be substantial.”

The program is designed to decrease water usage in both single-family and multi-family homes, with up to four rebates per residential utility account per year eligible.

WaterSense toilets are certified high efficiency toilets with flush volumes that do not exceed 4.8 litres per flush with solid waste removal of 350 grams or greater. According to industry averages, a low flush toilet can save up to 13,000 gallons per year per family.

Information on the program has been sent out with utility bills but is still available upon request at the town office front desk at 403-227-3376 or on the website (www.innisfail.ca) under environmental initiatives.
