The Town of Innisfail is getting ready for the Tour of Alberta.

Home of Stage two of the second Tour of Alberta, Innisfail will be home to a day of festivities that will include a pancake breakfast, face painters, food and live entertainment.

The second leg will start in Innisfail at 12:10 p.m. and include two loops through the downtown core, with a total of 145.3 kilometres for the day, which will end in Red Deer around 3:45 p.m.

According to the Tour website, the best places to watch the race are along main street (50 St.), from 49 to 51 Ave., along the neutral loop down 51 Ave. to 42 St., and back down 49 Ave. to main street.

Thousands of people are expected to line Innisfail streets and take part in the world-class event, which has drawn 145 of the top cyclists in the world.

“Last weeks push to get volunteers came through and we have enough people to help us make this successful,” said Tammy Oliver-McCurdie, manager of Innisfail Family and Community Support Services and operations coordinator for the local group. “Everything is a go and we are excited to be part of the event.”

Tour officials arrived on site early in the morning to begin preparations and community volunteers have put their ‘tour gear' on in support of the internationally renowned cycling event.
