Telus invests $350,000 for local service improvements

Exploding demand in Innisfail means Telus will invest $350,000 in Innisfail this year to expand and enhance wireless and broadband Internet services.

Exploding demand in Innisfail means Telus will invest $350,000 in Innisfail this year to expand and enhance wireless and broadband Internet services.

“The $350,000 investment means people and businesses right here in Innisfail will have more access to Internet and wireless services,” said Fred Weinheimer, general manager for Telus customer solutions delivery. He adds that demand for advanced communications services is exploding in Innisfail and the company is committed to bringing the latest technology to the community.

“It's really about ensuring that we continue to move forward, in Innisfail and across the province, especially in the highway corridors,” says Chris Gerritsen from Telus media relations. “The technology is changing all the time, as is the increase in demand for capacity. A smartphone is literally a computer at your fingertips, and it's critical to keep up with demand and continue to invest in technology.”

It's all part of a $2-billion infrastructure upgrade being done across the province into 2014. Telus estimates the company has spent $26 billion in infrastructure in Alberta since 2000. But it feels its investment in communities goes farther than providing its customers with world-class technology. Employees and retirees believe in supporting grassroots and community organizations across Alberta, as well.

Weinheimer says, “At Telus we truly see ourselves as members of each community where we operate across Alberta, and we recognize our investment in local organizations is as important as our investment in technology and infrastructure. Our simple philosophy, We Give Where We Live, has encouraged our Telus family of team members and retirees to contribute $30,000 to charitable and community organizations in Innisfail since 2000. Since its inception in 2007, the Telus Alberta Central Community Action Team has donated more than $230,000 in support of 63 local charitable projects.”

Telus is headquartered in Calgary with 13.2 million customer connections, including 7.7 million wireless connections, 1.4 million Internet subscribers and 712,000 TV customers in Canada. It provides a wide range of communication products and services, including wireless, data, Internet protocol (IP), voice, television, entertainment and video.
