Routine traffic stop leads to drug charges

An Innisfail man is facing drug trafficking charges following a routine traffic stop in town last week.

Innisfail RCMP Staff Sgt. Chris Matechuk said at about 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 13 police stopped a black 2005 Ford Ranger at the intersection of 52 Street and 50 Avenue The driver was known by police to be in the drug trade and that his driver's licence was suspended, said Matechuk.

He said the vehicle was searched and police found one ounce of cocaine, half an ounce of marijuana, $1,550 cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Wessam “Sammy” Haimour, 41, of Innisfail has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of driving a motor vehicle while suspended.

Burglary charges laid

A Red Deer man is facing numerous charges after RCMP investigated a complaint of a suspicious vehicle near Penhold.

Innisfail RCMP Staff Sgt. Chris Matechuk said at about 9:20 a.m. on Nov. 10 police located a man by a suspicious vehicle stuck in the snow on a rural property near Penhold.

The vehicle, a gold 1999 GMC Envoy, had a flat deck trailer attached that was carrying a four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle.

Further RCMP investigation revealed that a building on the property had been forcibly entered, said Matechuk. He said it was discovered that both the ATV and flat deck trailer had been reported stolen.

Adam Webb, 32, of Red Deer was arrested without incident and subsequently charged with four offences: break and enter and theft, mischief and two counts of possession of stolen property. He was remanded to custody and appeared in Red Deer provincial court on Nov. 13.
