The 28th annual Rotary Club of Innisfail Golf Classic hit a hole-in-one.

Close to 90 golfers turned out on July 10 to support the Innisfail Rotary Golf Classic on a warm, wind-free day at the Innisfail Golf Club. They raised close to $26,000 for Rotary-sponsored community initiatives.

“We had 88 golfers on course for the day,” said Peter Visser, Rotary president. “The weather was nice, and with that, we enjoyed getting out to the Innisfail Golf Club.”

Throughout the day, golfers birdied, putted, and drove the course while earning prizes for longest drive, closest to the pin, and other shot related bests while supporting the local Rotary Club.

“In addition to hole sponsorships, golfers were able to purchase tickets for a variety of draws such as travel and a Wild Tim's sponsored prize,” added Visser.

Rotary member David Layden and his son golfed in the fundraiser, noting it has always been a fun and enjoyable event.

“Over the last few years I have gone out and enjoyed the day with Rotarians and other community members,” said Layden. “It is always nice to see the support we get from the area to help us help others. The whole day is a win-win.”

Visser noted the funds raised will be invested wisely amongst Rotary-supported projects, local and international.

The Innisfail Rotary Club supports local projects such as Rosefield Centre, the Innisfail Rodeo Parade, and the historical village, in addition to youth ventures that include Adventures in Citizenship and Agriculture, Interact club (Bowden), scholarships, and Rotary Youth Leadership and programs of enrichment. Internationally, the local group has provided support for Polio Plus, has provided funds for Rancho de los Ninos in Mexico, and purchased a survival kit for Uganda as well.

The Rotary Club of Innisfail meets at the Royal Canadian Legion Thursdays at 12 p.m. every week.
