Town council has approved a 10 per cent recreational facility user fee hike for the seasonal farmers market and the annual Innisfail & District Chamber of Commerce Trade Show.

The user fee hikes for both groups follows council's approval on Jan. 14 of the 2014 Recreational and Parks Rates and Fees schedule. However, at the time the setting of new rates was passed over for the farmers market and trade show, which both utilize the Arena, to allow for a review and subsequent negotiations with both groups.

The new annual 10 per cent hike for both groups will be levied for a period of five years.

The new rate for the trade show will change from $700 to $770 while the cost to the seasonal farmers market will increase from $2,118 to $2,230.

As well, the 2014 Recreational and Parks Rates and Fees schedule has been amended to include the implementation of a damage deposit for the Community Room at the Innisfail Library and Learning Centre. For a normal rental the damage deposit will be $150. The damage deposit for a rental with alcohol will be $350.

Seniors' garden

party supported

Council has officially agreed to be represented at this year's Mayor & Seniors' Garden Party, which is being held in honour of Seniors' Week from June 2 to 8.

Tammy Oliver-McCurdie, the manager of Innisfail's Family & Community Support Services office, asked for council's support at its regular meeting on May 12. Mayor Brian Spiller will officially open the event, which is being held at the Innisfail & District Historical Village on June 4 from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Oliver-McCurdie said the event will feature the Golden Music Makers. She added a bonus this year will be the appearance of the John Wilson Elementary School Choir.

“We've added some inter-generational programming so we have asked the elementary school for the very first time to come out to the garden party and sing, which they are more than willing to do,” she said.

Meanwhile, town council members also agreed to support the 2nd Annual Innisfail Family Centre Society Anniversary Celebration by giving their time to cook up hotdogs and hamburgers at the event on June 7, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event is being held at the Dr. George Kemp House.
