Nighttime security is becoming an issue in Penhold.

During a recent town council meeting, Coun. Cory Kingsfield brought up the issue of security after peace officers finish their duties.

“I have been approached by a few residents regarding the security of Penhold during the evening hours,” said Kingsfield, citing incidents of vandalism during the night.

The town's Rick Binnendyk and Sharolyn Sanchez noted they have also been the victims of vandalism as well.

Discussion was held regarding the cost of security services for the town and whether the investment of funds into a commissionaire would be a good use of town resources.

Kingsfield noted his earlier involvement with homebuilders in Red Deer during a vandalism spree resulted in several companies hiring commissionaires to protect their properties. He said several of the same companies are working in Penhold on new developments.

A motion was put forth by Coun. Kathy Sitter to have administration look into the costs of providing commissionaires and the possibility of working with builders and developers in Penhold.

Council heard that information will be reported back to members over the next weeks.
