Community breakfast held

Close to 50 citizens attended the Penhold Community breakfast on Saturday, Jan 29, to participate in a discussion about organized community sports teams.

“We identified a lot of different sports people are interested in participating in,” said Dennis Cooper, Penhold mayor.

“But the top three sports identified were soccer, baseball, and hockey.”

Town officials will be sending out a survey in this month’s water bill to get further feedback about which sports the community would like to see the town offer through the new Multiplex.

“We explained that we really want this to be a community driven initiative,” said Cooper.

“After we get the surveys back it will take about a month to collect the data and then we will discuss with the community what we can get together.”

MPC member appointed

Penhold town council members appointed Nicole Jensen to the Municipal Planning Commission (MPC) as a member at large. The commission assists the development and planning officer in making development decisions that may go beyond the normal 10 per cent discretion of the planning officer.

The MPC is made up of three councilors and two members at large, the other current member at large is Brian Johnson. The three councilors are Dennis Cooper, Heather Klein, and Wendy Dodman.

A new member had to be appointed to the commission because the previous member at large, Heather Klein is now a member of council and had to step down from the position.
