The new Innisfail Youth Programming Centre will be home to a whirlwind of activity January 30 and 31 with the eager arrival of Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Innisfail and the Boys and Girls clubs.

ìPresently, we need volunteers at the board level, and we are looking to develop community partnerships to help us with our programming,î said Tim Howard, executive director of Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Innisfail, who added the event will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Howard spoke about expanding the number of committee members from seven to 13 in order to run seven events per year. Planned events include the annual gala, bowling for kids, a golf tournament, a community barbecue, and a winter festival.

A secondary strategy in the preliminary stages is that of corporate relations within Innisfail.

ìWe have implemented a different program of corporate involvement that includes four different levels, with four optional ranges of financial commitment,î added Howard. ìInstead of approaching our corporate partners for every event, we want to be able to provide a variety of options for them to get involved at. This will make it easier for businesses to budget, and in our case, easier for us to work within our means.î

The volunteer open house will include presentations from our different programs, and offer the opportunity for attendees to interact with board members to find out how they can become involved,î said Howard. ìWithout our volunteers, we would not be able to reach the youth we do.î
