Nummies By Mummies awarded Multiplex concession contract

The Penhold Regional Multiplex will soon have a concession and lounge service provider after Innisfail's Nummies By Mummies was awarded the contract on July 28.

The Penhold Regional Multiplex will soon have a concession and lounge service provider after Innisfail's Nummies By Mummies was awarded the contract on July 28.

During the meeting, Penhold council discussed two bids for the multiplex concession lease put forward by Penhold citizen Matthew Burton and Innisfail businesswoman Megan Bridges, owner/operator of Nummies by Mummies.

Burton has 15 years experience as an executive chef and as a food manager at Red Deer's River Bend Golf Course and the Sylvan Lake Golf Club. Meanwhile, Nummies by Mummies has been in operation for two-and-a-half years in Innisfail and Bridges is looking to expand her services into Penhold through the multiplex.

Burton offered a $1,100 plus GST per month contract over a one-year period with the option to move up to the lounge, while Bridges' proposal was $1,500 plus GST per month for a two-year agreement that included the upstairs lounge.

“After looking at the detailed business proposal and menu from Nummies by Mummies, their offerings seem to be more family oriented,” said Town of Penhold mayor Dennis Cooper.

Coun. Mike Walsh agreed with Cooper adding that Bridges has “done well in Innisfail” and noted that the same food options would be available on both the mezzanine and ground level locations, which he said was a “positive” in his mind.

Cooper added that “with Nummies by Mummies being awarded the contract, the whole facility would be used,” and also said “there were good and bad points to each proposal.”

“I like the fact that Burton is a local citizen,” said Coun. Kathy Sitter. “We do try to support local business and this would be one way to do that.”

She put forth a motion to approve Burton as the provider of choice for the multiplex concession, which was defeated 4-3.

Walsh moved that Nummies by Mummies be awarded the concession contract, which passed with four votes in favour, and three against.

Following the successful motion, administration will negotiate a lease agreement with Bridges for a two-year term, which will run until 2016.
