Rockabilly music fans will be “fishing in the dark” in Penhold on Oct. 23 at the Penhold Regional Mulitplex as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band hits town.

“The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band will be playing the multiplex,” said Dennis Cooper, mayor of Penhold. “It's going to be a great event for the town, and with only 1,100 tickets available, it is almost like a private concert.”

He noted this will be the second band to hit the multiplex this year with Shane Chisholm playing at the 2014 Fall Festival on Sept. 12.

“The concert is being held as a fundraiser for three groups, the Penhold Fire Department, the Penhold Amazons and the Penhold Skatepark Committee,” said Cooper. “Events like this need a lot of volunteers and we need 50 folks to come out and lend a hand.”

Tickets are available from the Town of Penhold office at a cost of $68, plus GST, and sales to date have been brisk, with more than a quarter of the town's allocation already being sold.

“I look forward to seeing the band play live and putting on a good show for Penhold and area,” said Cooper. “They'll be bringing their familiar brand of music and their tech show will really establish the multiplex as a viable destination for touring bands.”

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is an American country-folk-rock band that has toured and recorded since their founding in Long Beach, Calif., in 1966. Their hits include Fishin' in the Dark, Mr. Bojangles, and Make a Little Magic.

Promoted by Karizma Entertainment, KG Country, and Sakamoto Entertainment, the show will include Hey Romeo as the warm-up band with the show starting at 8 p.m.

Hey Romeo is an Alberta-based band that has been touring since 2002. The band won the 2012 Canadian Country Music Award for group of the year. Hey Romeo has just released a new six-song EP.

Tickets for the show are available from ticketmaster.com or from select community vendors.
