Town council has approved a new marketing plan for its lots in the Hazelwood Estates subdivision.

At council's Jan. 13 regular meeting, Craig Teal, the town's planning and operational services director, said the town acquired 51 residential lots in the Hazelwood Estates subdivision in 2010.

As of Dec. 31, 2013 the town sold 34 lots, which left 17 to be marketed for 2014, said Teal. According to a report presented to council, the 17 lots consist of eight duplex lots worth $69,900 and nine single detached dwelling lots that are selling for $94,800.

The proposed marketing incentives for 2014 include offering a $5,000 discount for a single detached dwelling lot purchased prior to May 1. This discount would be available as of Jan. 14. As well, there will be an extension of the closing date or final payment of up to six months for lots purchased prior to June 15. Council also agreed to maintain the pricing schedule from 2011 for sales in 2014.

Town council was also told a marketing budget of 410,000 was included in the 2014 budget to cover the town's out of hand expenses. Teal said the town used ìpretty closeî to the full $10,000 last year.

Weed and pest inspector appointed

Town council has approved the appointments for a weed and pest inspector.

At its regular council meeting on Jan. 13, members were told the town contracts with Red Deer County to have weed inspection services in the municipality.

Town council was also told the inter-municipal service agreement provides enforcement of the Weed Control Act within the boundaries of town during the period of May 15 to Aug. 31 on an annual basis. The town remains responsible for the shoulder periods outside that time period, said a report to council.

The town is further obligated under the provincial Agricultural Pests Act to appoint an agricultural pest inspector.

Council approved a recommendation from administration to have Laura Gillespie, the town's horticulturist, as the inspector for both weeds and pests.
