Highway 587 was the scene of a high-speed serious collision last week between two vehicles that resulted in two people being sent to hospital.

Prior to the collision at approximately 4 p.m. on Jan. 19, a member of the Red Deer County Patrol observed a southbound vehicle travel through a stop sign at the corner of Rge. Rd. 14 and Highway 587 at high speed and collide with a westbound vehicle.

The patrol officer observed a third vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 587 drive into the south side ditch to avoid the collision.

The Innisfail RCMP and Red Deer Integrated Traffic Services, along with fire and ambulance crews, attended the scene, located three kilometres west of Bowden.

The southbound vehicle on Rge. Rd. 14, a white Dodge pickup truck driven by a 37-year-old male from Barwell, continued through the intersection controlled by a stop sign and collided with a motor vehicle, also a white Dodge pickup truck, being driven by a 55-year-old male from Lacombe who was travelling westbound on Highway 587.

The drivers were the lone occupants of the two vehicles involved in the collision. Both were transported to hospital via ground ambulance.

The matter is still under investigation by the Innisfail RCMP and charges are pending.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision.

As of last week, RCMP has not released the condition of the two drivers.
