Diabetes patients looking for guidance will soon be able to find it.

Brenda Logan, Alberta Healthy Living Program-Central Zone Client Health educator, will be teaching Innisfail diabetes patients the ins and outs of dealing with their diabetes Jan. 15 at the Innisfail Library Learning Centre from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

ìWe can take up to 12 diabetes clients at each session,î said Logan. ìOur classes are not always filled, but they are becoming better known in Innisfail.î

Diabetes patients will learn how to manage their diabetes, pre-diabetes and type 2, in a six-hour session that will cover myths and facts, healthy eating, blood glucose monitoring and control, medications, the importance of keeping your feet healthy, and the advantages of adopting a healthy lifestyle.

ìThe classes are interactive, and we try to keep them fun. A six-hour commitment seems to be long, but once folks find themselves in it, they learn so muchî added Logan. ìAs this is a group class, we all learn from each other, and often we find that diabetes patients can find support from others in their community through this.î

Logan pointed out that teaching balance is an important part of the class.

ìDealing with diabetes, or any medical condition works best in balance with our lives. We often go off the deep end when it comes to health crisis,î said Logan. ìWe will be bringing two other classes, Heart Wise, which is a good addition to the diabetes class, on Feb. 4, and Healthy Living /Healthy Choices in March teaches more responsible decision making.î
