Chamber set to promote 'very beary Christmas'

Be prepared to hear the old Christmas song Teddy Bear Picnic often. “If you go out to the woods today, you're in for a big surprise For today is the day, the teddy bears have their Christmas,” says the tune.

Be prepared to hear the old Christmas song Teddy Bear Picnic often.

“If you go out to the woods today, you're in for a big surprise

For today is the day, the teddy bears have their Christmas,” says the tune.

And Diane Mineault, executive director of the Innisfail Chamber of Commerce, is set to make sure every Innisfailian has a very beary country Christmas.

“I want to see Innisfail homes and businesses and district lit up, from north to south, and east to west with a theme of a Very Beary Country Christmas,” said Mineault.

The Innisfail Chamber of Commerce Very Beary Decorating Competition is open to all businesses, homes, and farms in Innisfail and district. “If it looks like it could be decorated, be it a dog house, shed, garage, store front, or mailbox, light it up.”

Christmas light tours are popular in every community across the prairies and Mineault believes Innisfail should not be excluded from the festive season fun. “Another reason I would like to see Innisfail citizens light up our lives is that we can engage each other to make our community a place to explore, perhaps with a light tour,” she said. “We do know that not everyone who decorates will utilize our bear theme, but we look forward to a cheery town.”

“Registration of your decorated home or business will be easy,” she said. “All you will have to do is phone your address to our office at 403-227-1177, or email it to [email protected]

Judging will held Tuesday, Dec. 17 throughout the afternoon and evening, and the winners will be announced at the annual Innisfail Chamber of Commerce Christmas luncheon Friday, Dec. 20 at the Legion. Admission to the luncheon will be $20 plus a bear, which will be donated to the Community Christmas Dinner.

Prizes will be awarded in a number of categories, which will be announced at a later date.

Further information will be available from the Chamber website at http://www.innisfailchamber.ca/
