On Aug. 1 at approximately 8:30 a.m. Innisfail Integrated Traffic Unit was dispatched to a damaged SUV on the west shoulder of the QEII Highway, just north of the Olds overpass. Upon arrival police said there were no occupants and the key remained in the ignition. A large puddle of fluid was observed soaked into the ground nearby and a radiator cap was laying there too. Police say it appears the SUV suffered a mechanical failure and was abandoned roadside with no warning triangles or 4-way hazards activated. From the significant damage noted on the driver’s side police say it appears the SUV was sideswiped by an oversized load.

Two teens have been arrested and charged in connection to a car prowling and theft in Penhold.

Innisfail RCMP Staff Sgt. Chris Matechuk said in the early morning hours of July 27 members of the detachment were dispatched to a car prowling complaint in Penhold. He said two males were subsequently arrested.

RCMP charged an 18-year-old Lacombe teen and a 19-year-old Blackfalds male with possession of stolen property obtained by crime under $5,000. The pair were released to appear in Red Deer provincial court in early September.

Mounties said items seized from the males included a Noco Genius G3500 battery charger, an Apple iPhone, a JVC KD-S5050 stereo deck, a Bezel 1312 watch and two diamond-studded gold rings.

RCMP are requesting that any citizen in Penhold who may have been victims of theft from their vehicles during the weekend of July 26 and 27 to contact the Innisfail detachment at 403-227-3342 to identify and claim the items.
