A 20-year-old man is serving a six-year sentence for robbery, drug offences and fleeing from police after a dramatic incident that began in Innisfail and ended in Bowden in the spring.

Dillon Bristow was convicted Oct. 9 in Red Deer provincial court of several charges and pleaded guilty to others.

He pleaded guilty to attempted robbery, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and several counts of breaching court orders regarding use of a gun.

The Central Alberta incident began June 5 when Bristow and another man drove to Kelly's Campground near Innisfail.

With his face covered and his hood up, Bristow got out of the vehicle carrying a handgun. He approached a man at a nearby truck and tried to steal that vehicle. Bristow fired a round into the ground at the driver's feet.

A stolen truck with Bristow in it was spotted a few days later near Penhold. A police chase ensued.

Bristow drove the truck into a ditch near Bowden and a foot chase began, involving police from Olds, Innisfail, Didsbury, Red Deer, Blackfalds and Calgary.

Eventually, police tracked Bristow down in a greenhouse near Bowden.
